This particular storyteller is a young man who recounts his days in Secondary school, as one of those who unfortunately bullied someone in a junior class….

I was in ss3 when it happened. Due to the high rate of bullying in my school, the school authority shared hostels according to classes so you won’t have a reason to say someone bullied you. So now we were staying in one hostel as SS3 students which was the underground hostel, so for junior students from SS2 down coming to the underground hostel was a nightmare for them.

The junior student in question now committed a crime against an SS3 student and was dragged down to hostel that night and we ended up giving the junior the worst beating of his life. He was thereafter hospitalized in the school’s clinic before getting an exit to go home.

At first he didn’t want to open up on what truly happened because he faulted the SS3 student first but thereafter when it was time for the junior student to go back to school, he had to run away from home to his grandma’s house in Nnewi because of the trauma of the beating.

It was then that he was interrogated and he opened up and that was how the case got to the principal. We, the culprits were flogged and jailed by the principal in the school’s prison.

We were 6 culprits in number and in SS3, we were called out and flogged in the assembly ground with cable (the 6 of us and I was the only prefect among). Blood soaked our singlets and shirts from the flogging. We were unfortunate
